Most households with a septic tank will also have a grease trap installed,  usually dug into the ground in close proximity to the kitchen.  A grease trap is designed to trap all household grease, fats and food particles before they reach the septic system - as the  system works on bacteria to help break down the solids, these bacteria work more efficiently without grease, fats and food waste.  

Proper cleaning and maintenance of your grease trap is important to maintain proper drainage, minimise odours and prevent blockages.
